Empowering excellence: Preparing the next generation for success

Community is at the heart of Burch&Co, from our fellow South Melbourne Central House businesses to the lawyers who form the backbone of our firm.

We pride ourselves on setting the foundations for entrepreneurs and aspiring lawyers alike to reach and even exceed their goals, stepping up to empower the next generation.

The Expert Experience

We’re proud of the exceptional talent within our firm and the impact they have on the industry as they lend their voice to articles that further the education of young professionals. One such partnership sees data privacy expert Hana Lee (CIPP/E, CIPM) offer her expertise to support the efforts of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) and the LIV’s Technology and Innovation Executive Committee. Published in the Law Institute Journal (LIJ), these articles provide up-to-date insights on the role of technology and cybersecurity in legal practice, with Hana’s valuable knowledge feeding the passion and knowledge of the next generation of lawyers.

Nurturing Legal Talent

In late 2023 Burch&Co extended our educational partnership with Monash, offering real-world work experience to future lawyers. Our internship program exposes students to a progressive culture within the industry, offering in-person mentorship and early experience across all aspects of a modern enterprise law firm, including areas of practice and administrative obligations.

Effective industry experience is paramount within the legal sector, yet opportunities can be few and far between. The 12-week internship and work experience opportunity broadens students’ outlook on their graduate options outside of practising in traditional BigLaw firms.

Bridging Legal Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

Recognising the need for legal independence in the early stages of entrepreneurial enterprise, Burch&Co’s network partnerships extend our educational support to startups. Led by our Startup & Capital team, these Legal 101 sessions help innovators recognise opportunities and threats during the capital-raising stage of their business.

From establishing the program with the Monash Incubator Program, we have grown our impact on the wider Melbourne startup community in partnership with The Startup Network and SproutX. With industry experts ready and willing to pass on expertise, our team is committed to spearheading local business innovation with leading education and tools that empower entrepreneurs to advocate for themselves.
